To start off the new year, we wanted to share a behind the scenes glimpse into our manufacturing process and introduce you to Alex, our leather craftsman going on 8 years. We've fostered a wonderful relationship with him and his family during this time. In gratitude for their skills, hard work, and continued support we want to shed some light on the makers behind our bags. 

 

All Are Studio products are designed, developed, and handmade here in Los Angeles.  We are proud to have been working with the same manufacturer since 2015, whose factory is only a short mile from our downtown studio & showroom. Being able to foster such a long term relationship of mutual support with a skilled, local craftsman makes our work that much more meaningful. This partnership tethers us to our local community, and we believe that this is the type of relationship that can be felt and seen by our customers - the trust, mutual respect, and open communication that is built over the years manifests in the highest quality product. The close proximity also ensures two things of great importance to us: reducing the carbon footprint caused by overseas production & mutual oversight - to ensure that best safety practices are being followed and employee welfare is prioritized. 

 

Alex, our trusted manufacturing partner, runs a small family business where - amongst others - his brother Juan and son Alex Jr. also work. Alex learned his craft from a young age. After moving to LA from Mexico in 1999, Alex got a job making vinyl bags in his teens, eventually apprenticing with his then-boss to learn how to work with leather. It wasn’t always easy work, but he felt it was his trade.  After about 7 years he felt he had enough mastery of the craft and in 2011 he decided to start his own manufacturing business. 

 

Alex’s expertise has helped us reduce as much waste as possible during the development of each style, and season after season has supported our aim to make intentional choices rooted in an ethos that prioritizes quality over quantity and seeks to minimize waste at every step of production. We look forward to many more seasons of working together and hope you’ve all enjoyed this peek into our process.
